Stephanie's Story

Stephanie Vinar, a teacher and friend of Just Kids, passed away on April 12, 2011 at the age of 29 after a short but courageous battle with breast cancer.  Stephanie was a touching inspiration to all of us in the Just Kids family and we are still shocked and deeply saddened by her passing.

Services for Stephanie were held on April 14, 2011.                 Because so many of our staff members and families wished to attend the services, the Board of Directors closed Just Kids at 11:30am on April 14th to accommodate these wishes.  We appreciate the care, concern and  cooperation our families showed in order to make this possible. 

 Stephanie was born on September 30, 1981 in Moline to Steven and Tammy Munson Vinar.  She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1998 and attended Black Hawk College. Stephanie then graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in Education. She taught at Just Kids II (our school-age program) where she touched the lives of many children and their families.  Stephanie had many interests, but her favorite was being with her many friends and family.

Stephanie’s grace and dignity continues to be an inspiration.  She courageously battled her breast cancer diagnosis while still putting others before herself.  Stephanie was a very special teacher and friend to so many and she lived her life as  positive example to others.   

 To honor her memory and help the school-age children she worked with each day, Just Kids and Stephanie’s family have developed a memorial fund in her honor.  This fund is being     administered by the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend (CFGRB) and will support the programs and activities at Just Kids II.  We are thankful to those that have already donated in Stephanie's memory.  Donations may be sent directly to:
